Alendronate and risedronate are taken once weekly, while ibandronate is taken once monthly.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Bisphosphonate injections: Zoledronic acid injection is given once a year to treat postmenopausal osteoporosis. Bisphosphonate injections are used as an alternative treatment for patients who have difficulty swallowing bisphosphonate tablets or sitting upright after taking bisphosphonate tablets.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>How does Bisphosphonate work inside the body?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Bisphosphonate works as follows:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Inhibits the activity of cells that cause bone loss (osteoclasts).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Reduces the rapid rate of bone loss after menopause.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Increases bone mass in most patients.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>How should Bisphosphonate be taken?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Take the bisphosphonate tablet immediately after waking up with a full glass of plain water only (not mineral water, coffee, or juice).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Do not lie down after taking the bisphosphonate tablet; remain upright (sitting or standing) for 30 minutes, after which you may eat breakfast.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Do not chew or suck on the bisphosphonate tablet, as this will help the tablet reach the stomach faster and avoid esophageal irritation.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Do not eat breakfast, drink any beverage, or take any other medication including antacids, calcium supplements, or vitamins until at least 30 minutes after taking the bisphosphonate tablet.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Do not take bisphosphonate before bedtime or immediately after waking up (other than as directed).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>In which conditions is this medication contraindicated?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Patients with the following conditions should not take bisphosphonates:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Patients with certain esophageal disorders (the tube connecting the mouth and stomach).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Patients unable to sit or stand upright for 30 minutes.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Patients with low blood calcium levels (hypocalcemia).<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Patients with severe kidney disease.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>How should Bisphosphonate be stored?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Storage should be at a temperature between 20\u00b0C and 25\u00b0C (68\u00b0F &#8211; 77\u00b0F).<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>What are the possible side effects of taking Bisphosphonate?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Some patients may experience severe gastrointestinal reactions including esophageal irritation, inflammation, or ulceration.
