Two formulations are available for injection: Myochrysine and Solganal.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>What is the effect of Gold in treating rheumatoid arthritis?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">A number of mechanisms have been proposed to explain the effect of Gold, but its mechanism of action in treating rheumatoid arthritis remains unknown.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>What is the recommended dose of Gold?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The initial dose of Gold is 10 mg intramuscularly, followed by 25 mg in the second week, then 50 mg weekly until a response is achieved or until a cumulative dose of 1 gram is reached. If a positive response occurs, the dose is reduced to 50 mg every two weeks for 3 months, then every three weeks for another 3 months, and then continued as a monthly dose.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>How long does it take for Gold to show its effect in the body?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Results are achieved within 4 to 6 months or after receiving 1 gram of the medication.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>What are the possible side effects of Gold?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Rash is the most common reaction following Gold administration. This rash can range from simple erythematous patches with itching to severe exfoliative dermatitis.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Ulceration and inflammation of the mucous membranes of the mouth, tongue, and pharynx.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">More than 10% of patients experience mild proteinuria (protein leakage into the urine) due to gold-induced kidney disease.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Immune thrombocytopenia, agranulocytosis, and aplastic anemia may occur rarely but are indicators that necessitate discontinuation of Gold.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Muscle and joint pain after a Gold dose; consult your doctor if the pain is severe.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Should I have blood tests?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Before each Gold injection, the patient should have a complete blood count and a urinalysis to check protein levels in the urine.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Are there concerns about long-term use of Gold?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Long-term use of Gold may cause blue-gray skin discoloration, which is an expected side effect.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Gold during pregnancy and breastfeeding:<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">There are no studies on the effects of Gold during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
