Leukotrienes are chemicals released by the body when breathing in an allergen. These chemicals cause swelling and inflammation of the lungs and constrict the muscles around the airways, leading to asthma symptoms. Montelukast is used to prevent asthma attacks in adults and children as young as 12 months. It is also used to relieve runny nose and sneezing due to allergies in adults and children as young as 6 months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>How should I take Montelukast?<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The medication is usually taken in the evening.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">You should take it every day, so try not to forget or miss any dose.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Swallow the tablets whole.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Granules can be mixed with cold food (but not with liquid), or simply swallowed.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"ds-markdown-paragraph\" style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>What are the possible side effects of Montelukast?<\/strong><\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Seek emergency medical help if you have any of the following signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat. Talk to your doctor immediately if you experience any of the following serious side effects: skin rash, severe bruising, tingling, numbness. Changes in mood or behavior, depression, or suicidal thoughts.
