Aerochamber Inhaler

A metered-dose inhaler (MDI) consists of a pressurized medication canister in a plastic case with a mouthpiece. The Aerochamber consists of a plastic tube with a mouthpiece and a valve to control the amount of mist, along with a soft, closed end to hold the MDI. Before using the chamber, you need a mask size that fits your face. For elderly patients, it is recommended that the mask covers the face during use.

Doctors encourage using the chamber with a mouthpiece for patients over 4 years old who can be trained to use it. You need to follow the instructions provided by your treating physician.

How to assemble the chamber

  1. Remove the caps from the mouthpiece on the inhaler and on the Aerochamber device.

  2. Insert the inhaler mouthpiece into the wider, soft, closed end of the Aerochamber.

  3. Shake the inhaler and the Aerochamber together.

Taking treatment by inhalation using the Aerochamber

  1. Breathe out gently.

  2. Place the mouthpiece in your mouth between your teeth and close your lips around it.

  3. Press the inhaler once.

  4. Breathe in slowly and deeply for 3-5 seconds.

  5. Hold your breath for up to ten seconds.

  6. Resume normal breathing.

  7. Repeat steps 1-6 if more than one puff is prescribed.

Cleaning and caring for the Aerochamber

  1. Clean the Aerochamber once a week or more often if needed.

  2. Remove the back rubber piece of the Aerochamber with the mask so it is clean and ready for use.

  3. Soak both parts for 15 minutes in warm water with liquid detergent. Gently agitate them in the water. It is not safe to wash the Aerochamber in a dishwasher.

  4. Rinse with clean water.

  5. Shake off excess water. Do not rub to dry.

  6. Air dry in an upright position.

  7. Replace the back rubber piece when the unit is completely dry and ready for use.

As soon as you finish using the Aerochamber, wipe the face mask with an alcohol wipe and store it in a sealed plastic bag. Wash and dry your hands, and ask family members to keep the Aerochamber clean and ready for use.
